Trekking & Mountaineering : Regulations

     Expeditions Peaks:
Most of the local preparation for an expedition would be carried out by the trekking agency, it is however a good idea to submit the required documents in advance so all necessary paperwork can be completed in advance before the trekking team arrives.
     • Royalty Fee: The royalty fee depends on the the trek-route and mountain, normally there is a flat fee for upto seven members and additional members can be added for additional fees. From time to time there are special incentives and fee waivers for some peaks or the other provided by the government.
     • Liasion Officer: Normally for peaks exceeding 6,500 meters require a government appointed liasion officer, for mointoring that the mountaineering laws and regulations are followed. The costs for the liasion officer are borne by the expedition team. However for peaks less than 6,500 meters, a liaison officer is not required.
     • Environment Deposit: A refundable amount is to be deposited as environmental deposit for the expedition. This amount depends on the trekking peak.
     • Radio and Telephone: A lisence must be obtained for use of two-way radios and satellite phones.
     • Filming: A filming permit is required, if the expedition wants to make a documentary (or other profitable) film of their climbs.

     Trekking Peaks:
A trekking permit is required for the trekking peaks and also payment of a royalty fee, these normally don't take too long and trekking agencies arrange for these for the trekking team. Issuing trekking permits usually take a day or so.
     • The royalty fee applicable for the trekking team is same regardless of the trekking peak and route.
     • Environment Deposit, trekking teams are required to deposit a refundable amount as an environmental deposit.
