Wangduephodrang, located south of Punakha and the last town before central Bhutan this district is famous for its fine bamboo work, stone carvings and slate.

Gangtey Gompa / Phobjikha, the beautiful Phobjikha Valley lies to the east of Wangduephodrang, on its slopes is situated the great monastery of Gangtey, the village of Phobjikha lies a few kilometres down from the monastery, on the valley floor.
Mongar, built on a gentle slope of a hill marks the beginning of eastern Bhutan. The second largest town in the subtropical east.

Lhuentse, a 3 hour drive from Mongar is one of the most isolated districts in Bhutan, famous for its weavers, and their distinctive textiles considered to be the best in the country.
• The Kurtoe region of Lhuentse is the ancestral home of the monarchy.
Samdrup Jongkhar is a convenient exit town for tourists who have arranged to visit the neighboring Indian state of Assam. |
